Procession of San Pedro

HOLY TUESDAY

PROCESSION OF SAN PEDRO (SAINT PETER)

Religious brotherhood in charge: Pontificia y Real Hermandad de San Pedro Apóstol, Santo Cristo de las Penas y María Santísima de los Dolores.

The first float to parade along the streets during this procession bears the statue which represents Saint Peter, Prince of the Apostles, showing the great devotion that the people in Estepa have always had towards him. His sculpture, carved by Pedro de Mena at the end of the 17th century, captures his tears after he denied Christ’s resurrection and the crowing of the cock that stands by him.

The second float carries the sculpture of María Santísima de los Dolores (Our Lady of Sorrows).
